KAMLOOPS — (UPDATE 10:00 a.m.): Kamloops Fire Rescue crews made quick work of a very visible structure fire that broke out near McDonald Park on the North Shore.

Crews were called just before 8:45 a.m. Monday (July 13) morning as a large column of black smoke was visible across much of Kamloops. Firefighters arrived to find a recreational vehicle and a shed on fire in the area of Alexander Avenue and Ross Street, but they were able to get a handle on things around 9:00 a.m.

“We weren’t sure what it would be until we got on scene,” Platoon Chief Ken Hartt told CFJC Today. “It was an 18 foot motorhome and about a 10 foot by 10 foot shed that was on fire.”

Hartt said firefighters were able to knock down the blaze before it spread into a nearby alley. He added no injuries were reported, but a cause isn’t known at this time.

“Investigators will be here sometime this afternoon because there was a small structure involved,” Hartt added.

“We typically don’t investigate car fires or motor home fires just because of the nature of the electrical components inside them but crews will come have a look at the structure and see if they can determine the cause.”
