Gordie Howe International Bridge to open July 27 after delay

WASHINGTON — The Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Ontario to Michigan will open July 27, the federal government says.

A news release says Canada and Michigan agreed to opening the bridge with the support of the United States Government.

The release says Canada and the U.S. agreed to a series of measures on toll governance, “as well as investments in the region, including through the establishment of a 15-year economic development fund tied to a portion of profits from bridge operations.”

The move comes after the United States requested a delay for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in June to renegotiate terms of a long-standing agreement.
