KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops area was the focus of a three-day blitz into commercial vehicle safety rules and regulations last month.

From May 12 to 14, BC Highway Patrol held a series of 24/7 check stops in Central B.C., particularly the east and west sides of Kamloops, along with locations along Highway 5A. The blitz was part of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) International Road Check.

According to BC Highway Patrol, more than 400 clearly marked commercial vehicles in excess of 5,000 kilograms were inspected over the course of the operation, while thousands were given more cursory checks.

In a news release issued Tuesday (June 16), BC Highway Patrol says 44 violation tickets and 59 written warnings were issued during that time. It’s up from 31 and 29, respectively, during a similar operation in 2025.

Additionally, 38 notices and orders were issued requiring defects on commercial vehicles to be repaired, up from 28 during the same time in 2025.

“This is a year-over-year effort where we pool resources to check commercial vehicles on our highways,” Insp. Rob Nason, officer in charge of the BC Highway Patrol Central Region, says. “The majority of commercial vehicles and drivers we check are following the rules. We want to support them by enforcing the law against operators who cut corners.”

This year’s CVSA (CVSA) International Road Check was particularly focused on issues such as cargo securement and electronic logging device tampering or falsification.
