WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Ahead of the 2026 General Local Election, the Cariboo Regional District (CRD), City of Williams Lake and City of Quesnel are working together to teach residents about local politics.

The CRD said the workshops, presented by Christina Benty of Strategic Leadership Solutions Inc., will be open to all residents interested in learning more about local government, community leadership, and the role elected officials play in shaping their communities.

“The sessions are intended for potential candidates, engaged citizens, and anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of how local government works,” said the CRD.

The workshop will cover topics including:

  • Roles and responsibilities of local government and elected officials.
  • Leadership and decision-making in local government.
  • Considerations for people thinking about running for office.
  • Community engagement and informed participation.
  • Long-term planning and sustainable leadership.

The workshops will start at the City of Williams Lake Council Chambers from on June 22, then move to the Creekside Seniors Activity Centre in 100 Mile House on June 24, and finally at the City of Quesnel Council Chambers on June 26.

All of the events will run from 4 to 7 p.m. on their respective dates.

“The workshops are designed to provide residents with an opportunity to learn more about local government, ask questions, and explore what community leadership looks like,” said CRD officials.

“Strong local government relies on informed and engaged communities, thoughtful decision-making, and residents who are interested in shaping the future of their communities.”
