Blazers make 10 selections in WHL Prospects Draft; Kamloops local taken by Lethbridge

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers finished the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft with 10 new prospects, including six forwards, three defencemen and a goaltender. 


The Blazers took Edmonton center Micah Montgomery with the eighth overall pick in the first round Wednesday (May 6). 

Kamloops started a lengthy second day Thursday by selecting Mason Auger 30th overall in the second round. The 2011-born defenceman from Minnesota scored nine goals and 72 points in 47 games with East Grand Forks Bantam AA team in the U-15 level and four goals and 20 points in 18 games with the Blue Ox AAA team in the Minnesota Highschool Performance program at the U-14 level. 

The Blazers concluded the second round with back-to-back picks: centers Mazen Green 45th overall and Nixon Gaudet 46th overall. 

Green scored 18 goals and 46 points in 30 games with Delta Hockey Academy’s U-15 prep team. Gaudet scored 53 goals and 80 points in 32 games with the Eastman Selects U-15 team in the Winnipeg AAA league. Gaudet also scored two assists in four games for the Eastman Selects U-17 team. 

The Blazers made a pair of trades that saw them move down in the order for the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft while adding draft capital for 2027. The Blazers sent the 36th overall pick to the Calgary Hitmen in exchange for the 45th overall pick and a fourth round pick in 2027, via the Penticton Vees, and traded the 82nd overall pick to the Vees in exchange for the 158th overall pick and a third round selection in 2027. 

The Blazers’ 2026 WHL Prospects Draft class is as follows: 

Round One, eighth overall – center Micah Montgomery, OHA Edmonton U-15 Prep 

Round Two, 30th overall – defenceman Mason Auger, Minnesot Blue Ox U-14 

Round Two, 45th overall – center Mazen Green, Delta Hockey Academy U-15 Prep 

Round Two, 46th overall – center Nixon Gaudet, Eastman Selects U-15 AAA 

Round Three, 59th overall – left wing Marcus Phillips, Yale Hockey Academy U-15 Prep 

Round Four, 80th overall – defenceman Carsten Patrick, Delta Hockey Academy U-15 Prep 

Round Four, 83rd overall – goaltender Cohen Wood, St. George’s School U-15 Prep 

Round Six, 138th overall – centre Ryker Stevens, Yale Hockey Academy U-15 Prep 

Round Seven, 158th overall – left wing Cade Mazurski, Edge School U-15 Prep 

Round Eight, 174th overall – defenceman Farhan Haq, Dallas Stars Elite U-14 

Elsewhere, a Kamloops local was selected in the third round of the 2026 WHL Prospects Draft. 

Evan Cuthbertson was taken 58th overall by the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The 2011-born Kamloops defenceman and former Thompson Blazer scored two goals and 12 points in 16 games for Yale Hockey Academy’s U-15 prep team in 2025-26.
