City of Kamloops to test Voyent Alert emergency notification system Friday

May 7, 2026 | 4:31 PM

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops will be conducting a city-wide test of its emergency notification system – Voyent Alert – this Friday (May 7) afternoon.

City staff say you should expect to receive the test alert by text, phone call, email or through the mobile app, depending on how you signed up. If you use the app, the city notes to make sure it is still enabled, as some phones tend to remove permissions if an app isn’t used for a long period of time.

“The test on Friday will come out between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m., so when you receive a Voyent Alert during that time frame, don’t panic, it’s a good thing. It means our system is working,” Ty Helgason, the city’s emergency preparedness manager, said.

In the event of an emergency like a flood, wildfire or another critical incident like a spill, Helgason said Voyent Alert is what the city will use to provide residents with details about the situation and instructions on any actions they may need to take.

“Voyent Alert is where you’ll get your most up-to-date and accurate information if there is an emergency, so it’s really key to have that set up for yourself,” Helgason added.

The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) and the B.C. government also tested their own emergency alert systems this week as part of emergency preparedness week.
