B.C. Hockey Conference commissioner Dubois talks new Junior A league, addresses WIJHL split

BC Hockey announced on Tuesday [April 21] its board of directors unanimously approved an application from the B.C. Hockey Conference (BCHC) to become the province’s Hockey Canada-sanctioned Junior A league.

Twenty-two teams — including 14 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) members — will begin play in the BCHC this fall.

BCHC commissioner Jeff Dubois spoke to CFJC Today about the transition on Wednesday [April 22] and addressed comments made by Chase Heat president Darryl Adamson.

The Heat are among eight KIJHL teams that chose to form a separate league — the Western International Junior Hockey League — outside of the Hockey Canada umbrella instead of becoming a Junior B club in the BCHC ranks.
