LYTTON, B.C. — The BC Wildfire Service says a small wildfire that sparked south of Lytton Monday (April 6) afternoon is now under control at 3.6 hectares.

The fire near Siska creek is believed to be human caused, and it was highly visible to people on the Trans-Canada Highway.

“Crews are onsite at this incident today extinguishing hot spots, patrolling the perimeter, and conducting mop-up activities,” a Tuesday statement from the BC Wildfire Service said. “The fire is still displaying rank 1 behaviour with pockets of 2, meaning a smouldering ground fire with some visible flame and a very slow rate of spread.”

The BC Wildfire Service also says another fire near Spatsum Creek – between Lytton and Ashcroft – is also under control at 25 hectares. This fire was discovered on Monday as well and it is also suspected to be human caused.
