CACHE CREEK, B.C. — The Village of Cache Creek has received nearly $4.2 million in funding to replace the culvert on Quartz Road with a permanent bridge.

The link between Quartz Road and Highway 1 in Cache Creek was overwhelmed and lost amid the flooding event of 2023

In a news release issued Tuesday (March 17), the village says it secured the funding through the provincial government’s Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) program to construct a bridge that will be more flood resilient.

According to the village, the bridge design provides a significantly increased waterway opening compared to the culvert it replaces. It says the bridge will reduce the risk of future closures caused by extreme weather events.

“This has been a long road, and our community has shown incredible patience and resilience throughout our recovery,” said Cache Creek Mayor John Ranta. “Securing this funding and moving forward with a permanent bridge is exactly the kind of outcome we were fighting for. This isn’t just a repair – it is an upgrade that will serve Cache Creek for generations to come.”

While the village notes a construction start date, along with a project timeline and expected traffic impacts, are yet to be determined, further details will be released in the coming months.

Work on replacing the Quartz Road culvert with a bridge comes following the completion of the Highway 97 Cache Creek Crossing Restoration Project in 2025.
