BOSTON — Former Kamloops Blazers captain Fraser Minten has been named the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for January.

The Boston Bruins centre put up eight goals and 14 points in 14 games along with a +12 rating in the first month of 2026. He led all rookies in goals (eight), tied for second in even-strength points (11) and power-play points (three), and tied for fourth in assists (six).

Minten edged Washington forward Justin Sourdif, Anaheim forward Beckett Sennecke, New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer, and Montreal teammates Ivan Demidov and Jakub Dobes to become the first Bruin to win the award since Jeremy Swayman in February 2022.

Minten had two multi-goal games – including one in his native Vancouver – in January. He also notched his first two career three-point nights last month – against the New York Rangers (two goals, one assist) on Jan. 10 and against the Philadelphia Flyers (one goal, two assists) on Jan. 29.

His eight goals were the most by a Bruins rookie since Brad Marchand accomplished the feat in January 2011. Only five other rookies in Boston’s 101-year history have scored more in a single month – Ken Hodge Jr. (11 in February 1991), Jimmy Herberts (10 in January 1925), Barry Pederson (10 in December 1981), Roy Conacher (nine in February 1939) and Bob Miller (nine in December 1977).

Minten is also the first Bruins rookie with at least 14 points in a single month since Danton Heinen tallied 14 points in 14 games in December 2017. The last Boston rookie with more points in a month was Brad Boyes (16 points in 19 games) in March 2006.

A second-pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2022, Minten was acquired by the Bruins at the trade deadline in March last year.

The 21-year-old has 14 goals and 29 points in 55 games this season, which has him fourth in goals and sixth in points among rookies this season.
