Blazers’ Brunicke, DePalma win bronze at 2026 World Juniors
ST. PAUL, MINN. — Harrison Brunicke and Dan DePalma will be leaving the State of Hockey with a World Juniors bronze medal.
The pair were part of Team Canada, which salvaged bronze following a 6-3 win over Finland Monday (Jan. 5). It was Canada’s first World Juniors medal since they won gold at the 2023 tournament in Halifax, a team which featured former Blazers Logan Stankoven and Caeden Bankier.
Brunicke, who served as alternate captain this year, finished with two assists in seven games in Minnesota. The 19-year-old defenceman — who has yet to play for the Blazers this season — has featured for both the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins and the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Like Brunicke, this is also De Palma’s first medal at the World Juniors. The Blazers’ director of goaltending development was part of Canada’s coaching staff in Minnesota, having served in a similar role at last year’s tournament in Ottawa, where Canada finished fifth.
