KAMLOOPS — Tyrelle Chadwick has signed with the Colorado Rockies.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-handed pitcher put pen to paper on a contract with a US $125,000 signing bonus on July 22.

Chadwick was drafted by the Rockies in the 18th round, 527th overall and he’s been assigned to the Arizona Complex League (ACL) Rockies in Scottsdale, Arizona.

The former Kamloops NorthPaw played three seasons with the Illinois State Redbirds, and will forego his final season of college baseball.

“I do genuinely believe I have the ability to be a big leaguer one day, but I think I’m obviously going to have to just take it a day at a time,” Chadwick told CFJC Today after he was drafted.

“I’ll get my first taste of professional baseball in a couple weeks and have a chance to really look at myself objectively and see what I have to work on.”

Ray Chadwick, Tyrelle’s father, is head coach of the TRU WolfPack baseball team. The elder Chadwick went 0-5 in his only season in the MLB in 1986, after he was picked by the California Angels in the 16th round of the 1983 MLB Draft.
