KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) crews spent hours battling a house fire at a Westsyde cul-de-sac overnight.

The call for the house fire at Serle Court came in at around 11:15 p.m. Sunday (July 13). Crews arrived on scene discovering the house with flames and smoke coming out through the windows.

According to KFR’s assistant chief Scott Johnson, crews had to take a defensive approach to the fire. They remained on scene until around 2:00 a.m. Monday.

“There’s significant damage to the structure itself and at least one neighbour has some damage to the side of their house from the heat,” Johnson told CFJC Today. “They were able to stay in their home overnight but the two people that were in the house affected were displaced. They got out okay with their two pets. No injuries.”

While flames were seen coming from inside the house, Johnson said the fire could have started on the deck. However, he notes it’s premature, and fire investigators will be on scene Monday to try and determine the cause.
