ASHCROFT, B.C. — Firefighters in Ashcroft are crediting a group of good Samaritans for putting out a grass fire that crossed the Trans Canada Highway.
In a social media post Monday (May 12), Ashcroft Fire Rescue says the fire nearly one kilometre north of the Ashcroft Travel Centre was being extinguished by a man with a fire extinguisher and other residents with shovels.
Fire crews say the fire was 125 by 50 feet on the east side of Highway 1 and 30 by 15 feet on the west side.
“The fire crews cooled the area with water from Tender 4 and Engine 3. A thorough walk through the area with the thermal imaging camera confirmed that no hot spots remained,” Ashcroft Fire Rescue says.
