Kamloops Accessibility Plan

Kamloops seeking feedback on accessibility plan updates

Nov 8, 2026 | 2:06 PM

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is seeking public input as work to update its 2023 Accessibility Plan continues.

The city said the current accessibility plan was developed in collaboration with the Accessibility Engagement Group, which includes people with lived experience of disability, organizations serving persons with disabilities, and Indigenous representation, along with public feedback.

Kamloops’ current update is meant to build on the original plan and establish new priorities to reduce barriers and improve accessibility across municipal facilities, services, programs, and operations.

“The Accessibility Plan helps guide meaningful improvements that support participation, inclusion, and independence for people of all abilities,” said Ashley Ekelund, the City’s Social and Community Development Supervisor.

“This review is an opportunity to reflect on the progress we’ve made, identify barriers that remain, and ensure future actions continue responding to community needs.”

The city said it will continue to move forward with improvements across five areas, including:

  • Built Environment – City facilities, parks, streets, sidewalks, trails, public spaces, and other City-owned infrastructure.
  • Programs and Services – How residents learn about, register for, access, and participate in municipal programs, services, events, and public engagement opportunities.
  • Employment – Recruitment, hiring, accommodation, training, onboarding, and workplace inclusion within the City organization.
  • Transportation – Transit infrastructure and services, pedestrian access, crossings, curb letdowns, sidewalks, snow removal, and other elements that support safe and independent mobility.
  • General Actions – Accessible communications, staff awareness, policies, accountability, feedback mechanisms, digital access, and the consistent use of an accessibility lens across City departments.

The public will be able to share their thoughts online through the city’s LetsTalk page from Friday (Nov. 13) to January 31, 2027.

Residents can also provide input through the city’s Have Your Say Day at the Sandman Centre from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 14).

The city said the feedback submitted through its online form, which is available year-round, will be used to support ongoing improvements and help inform the updated plan.
