Kamloops’ top cop hopes new council location report won’t delay building new RCMP headquarters
KAMLOOPS — The head of the Kamloops RCMP detachment is optimistic a recent decision to revisit potential locations for a new – and much-needed – $160-million headquarters won’t cause the project to be delayed any further.
Early next year, the next Kamloops council is scheduled to decide how to fund the project, but Kamloops RCMP brass are monitoring developments after Councillor Margot Middleton’s motion asked city staff to investigate potential alternate sites, including the former Stuart Wood School site.
“It is my understanding there are multiple sites they want to examine with respect to that, and we are continuing to work with the municipality on what those sites are and whether those sites would be suitable,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley told CFJC Today.
“There was a formal plan for this [Battle Street] site specifically, and again, all options are being considered, and I have no information that it is going to currently delay the process.”
