KSAR seeking donations from businesses and organizations as fundraising for new HQ continues

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search and Rescue (KSAR) is still on the lookout for donations towards its new headquarters in the Rayleigh area, where construction could begin as early as next year.

The organization has committed to raising at least $1.4 million toward the project, though its fundraising campaign has a total goal of $2.5 million. The campaign began with a $160,000 donation from the Middleton family last month, and KSAR hopes that donation will inspire others to open up their wallets.

“We are definitely still looking for donations from business and organizations to help with the new hall,” KSAR president Paula Davies said, noting the organization is still looking for a fundraising coordinator to help lead its ‘Home Base’ campaign.

“We are hoping to get some more of those larger, leadership-type donations and then we will announce that our campaign will be public and we hope that people will donate as well.”

Davies said KSAR also benefits from the generosity of people as search and rescue groups are typically funded through a mix of government grants, community donations and local fundraising.

“Rescues typically at Slot Canyon, for example, [the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness] does reimburse us for mileage to go out and do rescues like that but we rely on community donations to make sure that we are operationally ready 24/7,” Davies added.
