Former Kamloops councillor Dieter Dudy dies

Dudy moved to Kamloops in 1989. He owned and operated Thistle Farm, an organic vegetable farm in Westsyde, and was part of the local Farmers’ Market and the food security system in Kamloops for nearly 30 years. Dudy was also outspoken about the infamous and now-decommissioned Noble Creek Irrigation System.

In municipal politics, Dudy fell 235 votes shy of incumbent Peter Milobar in Kamloops’ mayoral race in 2011. He was then elected to Kamloops council in 2014, finishing with the third most votes at 10,399. He was re-elected in 2018 with 9,181 votes, which was fourth among elected councillors. 

Dudy was the runner-up for the Kamloops mayoral seat once again in 2022. He finished second among five candidates with 5,650 votes, only trailing Reid Hamer-Jackson and his 7,298 votes.

While closing the door on a third attempt at running for the mayor’s chair, Dudy said in a social media post that he may run for council again ahead of the Oct. 17, 2026 municipal election.

Dudy was 71 years old.
