KAMLOOPS — A two-time runner-up for the Kamloops mayor’s chair says he will not take another run in 2026.

Dieter Dudy told media Wednesday (June 10) he is ruling out a run for mayor in the October 17 municipal election. However, Dudy says he is still considering a run for one of the eight councillor seats.

“After a lot of soul-searching and deliberation, I have decided to not pursue the office of mayor in the upcoming civic election,” Dudy said in his message to media. “The reasons are numerous and while I believe I still had something to offer the community, I also believe that the overall wellbeing of the community comes first.”

“That said,” he continued, “I have not completely shut the door on a council run.”
