Kamloops RCMP, ICBC clarify rules, fines around e-scooter use

KAMLOOPS — The RCMP are reminding people about the rules related to the use of e-scooters as Kamloopsians continue to get familiarized with the devices on city streets.
The safety messaging comes following a fatal crash that claimed the life of an 18-year-old last month, which prompted conversations about the dangers of e-scooters in Kamloops. The city and Interior Health have also spoken about the need to take proper precautions while riding these devices.
In a statement, Kamloops RCMP said it wants people to remember that there are fines for improper and unsafe use.
“We are seeing more E-scooter use throughout the city and want to educate the community while keeping in mind that enforcement is still an option,” said Sandro Piroddi, the Kamloops RCMP’s Crime Prevention Coordinator said. “Our goal is to prevent injuries and remind all users to ride responsibly especially as students are heading back to school in the coming days.”
