Kamloops Fire Rescue quickly puts out late fire in Peterson Creek Park

KAMLOOPS — A close call in Peterson Creek Nature Park has Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) urging residents to remain vigilant during the dog days of summer.

KFR says crews responded to a 50-foot interface fire in Peterson Creek Park, showing Rank 1 and 2 fire behaviour, at around 9:30 p.m. Monday (Aug. 17). After crews poured thousands of gallons on the site, the fire was put out at around 9:45 p.m.

KFR Platoon Chief Cory Hintz notes that multiple calls came in to report the fire, especially from the Trans-Canada Highway above. He adds that crews were fortunate that winds in Kamloops weren’t strong Monday night.

“People have to be careful for at least another few weeks,” Hintz told CFJC Today. “Be careful when you’re walking the trails around Kamloops. Things are very dry.”
