“They are very interested in doing what they can to ensure that people are safe and that structures are protected.”

Nearly a decade ago, Cache Creek was completely evacuated due to wildfire and Ranta said the community feels anxious about the fire’s growth and sympathy for those impacted by the Pear Lake blaze.

“We feel so badly for the evacuation of Clinton and now 70 Mile, as well. We’ve been evacuated previously in Cache Creek and we know what that’s like. It’s very disconcerting for everyone involved,” said Ranta.

“People are naturally quite worried because they’ve been through it before.”

Even though there are no current evacuation alerts or orders on the village itself, Ranta said residents are still getting prepared in case things take a turn for the worse.

“With all of the publicity about the fire and the unpredictability, there are some people who are getting ‘go bags’ ready. We haven’t had any indication there is any threat to the village of Cache Creek,” said Ranta.

“I think it’s always a good idea to be prepared and have a ‘go bag’ ready with medication and important papers and whatnot. But, at this time, we’re not anticipating any significant wildfire action in or around the village of Cache Creek.”
