Frightening home invasion leads to homicide in Salmon Arm

SALMON ARM, B.C. — Police in the Shuswap are investigating a rare homicide in the city of Salmon Arm.

In a news release, Salmon Arm RCMP say the incident took place last Friday (July 17).

At about 3:00 a.m., investigators believe three people – two males and one female – burst into a home in the 100-block of Fourth Street Southeast. One of the residents was shot during a confrontation, later succumbing to their injuries.

Police say they believe the suspects fled in a black Chrysler 300 car.

“The vehicle was described as having three matching wheels, a solid steel wheel on the rear passenger side and a sunroof,” noted RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Vanessa Munn in the release.

Later that day, a car was found burned out in the Glenemma Trailhead parking lot at the Kelly Mountain Recreation Site, accessed from Yankee Flats Road and Mactavish Road south of Salmon Arm. It’s suspected this was the car used in the getaway.

“The Salmon Arm RCMP General Investigation Section continues to pursue all available leads and is working to identify and locate those responsible,” noted Munn. “Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, observed the suspect vehicle before it was abandoned, or has dash camera or surveillance footage from the surrounding area to contact Salmon Arm RCMP investigators immediately.”

Those who come across the suspects are advised against approaching them. Instead, they are asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
