Meanwhile, the TNRD and the Cariboo Regional District have maintained their Evacuation Alerts and Orders for over 300 properties in response to wildfires in the region.

Fiftynine Creek

On Friday evening (July 17), the TNRD has ordered an evacuation for 131 addressed properties in Electoral Area “E” (Bonaparte Plateau) in response to the wildfire that quickly exploded to an estimated 40 square kilometers.

The impacted areas include:

• 2340 to 4010 Big Bar Road
• 880 to 1075 Isadore Road
• 1792 to 2264 Marriot Road
• 3629 to 3655 Sharptail Road
• 4385, 4405, and 4415 Big Bar Road
• 2760 and 2769 Dog Creek Road
• 1876 to 1948 Lake Drive
• 3380 to 3600 Meadow Lake Road

The TNRD has also put another 63 addressed properties on Evacuation Alert in response to the wildfire that grew rapidly since it was reported on Friday. This includes the following areas:

• The area west of the current Evacuation Order area to Poison Lake Road
• The area east of the current Evacuation Order area to Highway 97

The BCWS has ground and aerial crews responding to the lightning-caused wildfire along with heavy equipment and a structure protection team.

“Cooler temperatures will continue through Sunday with light winds coming from the north-northeast. Warmer temperatures are expected for Sunday afternoon with continued warming and drying into next week,” said the BCWS.

“Structure protection personnel worked through the night assessing and setting up fire suppression equipment. These efforts were supported by Night Vision Imaging System aviation resources bucketing water to protect structures.”

French Bar Creek

The 112.5 square kilometre wildfire had two addressed properties and one unaddressed property on Evacuation Order since Saturday (July 18). This includes:

• PID 013-401-530, District Lot 5151, Lillooet District (near Lone Cabin Creek)
• 7129 and 7140 Empire Valley Road

An Evacuation Alert is in place for the area encompasses a large, isolated part of Electoral Area “E,” west of the Fraser River and north and west of French Bar Creek Park, including the Churn Creek Protected Area.

Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation and the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) also have 22 properties on an Evacuation Alert in response to the fire.

“Please prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be required,” said the CRD Emergency Operations Centre.

“Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.”

The BCWS said the 11,248.1-hectare fire has been burning since July 4, with recent rapid growth spurred on by a hot, dry conditions and strong winds in recent days.

The terrain is also proving to be a challenge for firefighting crews.

“The French Bar Creek wildfire (K70748) is located approximately 1.5km west of the Fraser River, burning upslope in steep and rocky terrain,” said the BCWS.

“The fuels are a mix of grassland in areas near the Fraser River and timber in upslope and plateau areas. The terrain, availability of water and access to the fire are posing challenges for responders.”

BCWS officials said crews are working to protect building as part of their operations on Sunday (July 19).

“Today, crews will focus efforts on structure and values protection along the north flank of the fire in the Empire Valley area. Should fire activity and behavior be deemed too unsafe for our crews, crews will be pulled from the fire line and redeployed only when conditions are safe,” said the BCWS.

On Thursday (July 16), the TNRD also activated a State of Local Emergency in response to the blaze.

“This declaration enables prompt coordination of action or special regulation of persons or property to protect the health, safety, or welfare of people or to limit damage to property,” said the TNRD.

“Declaring a State of Local Emergency enables local authorities to exercise the emergency powers listed in the Emergency and Disaster Management Act.”

Bowers Lake

The 150-hectare Bowers Lake wildfire has led to the evacuation of 38 properties between Bowers Lake and Needa Lake.

The CRD issued the Evacuation Order on Saturday (July 18) afternoon in response to the growing lightning-caused wildfire.

The BCWS said ground and aerial crews are responding to the fire.

“Cooler temperatures contributed to good overnight recoveries resulting in decreased fire activity. This afternoon an upper low is forecasted to pass through the southern sections of the fire centre bringing cooler temperatures, higher relative humidity and gusty westerly winds. There continues to be a chance of lightning activity that will remain throughout the weekend,” said the BCWS.

“Cooler temperatures will continue through Sunday with light winds coming from the north-northeast. Warmer temperatures are expected for Sunday afternoon with continued warming and drying into next week.”

Pear Lake

The 30-hectare Pear Creek wildfire has led to the TNRD to place an Evacuation Alert for 39 properties in the Electoral Area “E” (Bonaparte Plateau) area. This includes:

• 6421 to 6977 Jesmond Road
• 1093 to 1996 Pavillion-Clinton Road

The Squamish Lillooet Regional District also has its own Evacuation Alert for 10 properties that include:

• 560 to 980 Pavilion-Clinton Road
• 100 to 400 Pear Lake Road

“This Evacuation Alert is in place to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary. Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to an Evacuation Order; however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions,” said the TNRD.

The BCWS said ground and aerial crews are responding to the fire, with an expected increase in fire activity expected to come across the region.

“A warming and drying trend will continue throughout the week causing temperatures to increase further, ranging from 29 to 33 degrees. A slight risk of thundershowers will persist into early next week,” said the BCWS.

“There will be light east northeast winds through to Wednesday changing to westerly winds on Thursday.”
