FALKLAND B.C. — The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) has stopped providing dog control services in Electoral Area D, including Falkland, Salmon Valley, Deep Creek and Ranchero.

At the June 18 Regular Meeting, the CSRD Board unanimously to repeal the Ranchero Dog Control Extended Service Bylaw No. 5095.

The CSRD said the Board’s decision to repeal the bylaw took place once the regional district received approval to cancel the bylaw from the Provincial Inspector of Municipalities.

With the bylaw repealed, the previous dog control service has stopped.

“Dog control complaints in Electoral Area D will no longer be accepted by the CSRD,” said the CSRD.

“There will no longer be any investigation or response to any dog-related complaints in this area, including complaints regarding aggressive and dangerous dogs.”

This also means:

  • Current dog control files in Electoral Area D will be closed with no further action from the CSRD.
  • After 2026, taxpayers in Electoral Area D will no longer pay for dog control.
  • Residents of Electoral Area D will have to contact the RCMP regarding any aggressive or dangerous dog complaints, and the BC SPCA can be contacted for reports of animal neglect or cruelty.

“Dog control services in Electoral Areas C (Eagle Bay, White Lake, Tappen), F (North Shuswap) and G (Blind Bay, Sorrento, Notch Hill) will not be affected,” said CSRD officials

“The CSRD will continue to operate aggressive and dangerous dog control services in Electoral Areas C and G, and dangerous dog control in Electoral Area F.”
