Charges approved against Revelstoke RCMP officer after 2025 collision near Sicamous

Jun 11, 2026 | 7:32 AM

SICAMOUS, B.C. — A Revelstoke RCMP officer has been charged under the Motor Vehicle Act after an incident in the Shuswap last year.

The BC Prosecution Service announced Cst. Rachel Mandel has been charged with one count of driving without due care and attention.

The prosecution service says the charges were approved by an experienced Crown Counsel who has no connection with Cst. Mandel.

The charge comes after the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) investigated a collision between a police vehicle and a motorcyclist near Sicamous at around 5:35 p.m. on June 15, 2025.

At the time, the IIO said an officer was driving a police vehicle on the Trans Canada Highway near Leaf Road in Solsqua, east of Sicamous, when the vehicle collided with the motorcycle. The male rider was injured in the crash.

The IIO investigates any incident in which someone has been seriously injured or killed and that outcome may have been the result of police action or inaction.

Cst. Mandel’s first appearance in Salmon Arm Provincial Court is scheduled for July 21, 2026. As the matters are now before the court, the prosecution service says it will not release any additional information or comment further at this time.
