MERRITT, B.C. — April showers bring May flowers, and in some cases, June flurries.

Environment Canada has a special weather statement in effect for the Pennask Summit on the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna. Around four centimetres of snowfall accumulation is expected from Tuesday (June 9) morning to Wednesday morning.

“An upper disturbance will pass over Southern B.C. and could bring some snow to some high elevation highway passes,” Environment Canada states. “Snow levels are set to lower to around 1700 metres today and will linger until Wednesday… Visibility will likely be reduced at times. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Allow extra time for travel.”

Winter tires are not mandatory on B.C. highways until Oct. 1.
