The city says the work zone will remain open to local traffic only with speed limits of 30 km/h. Traffic control personnel will be onsite to help residents navigate the detour safely. Residents are asked to follow all posted signage and directions. 

Additionally, the city says Kamloops RCMP will actively monitor the construction area and ticket non-compliant drivers. 

The construction work comes amid the third and final phase of the Tranquille Road Sanitary Main and Road Enhancement Project. The third phase is expected to wrap up in late 2026, depending on weather conditions.

The two-year-long third phase of the Tranquille Road project began in June last year and crews were focused on the section between Crestline Street and Downie Street. The third stage of Phase Three will see construction focus on Schreiner Street to Southill throughout the summer while the fourth and final stage will focus on Windbreak Street to Southill from late summer until the end of construction season.

Recently, the city was authorized to borrow up to $9 million for the third phase of the Tranquille Road Sanitary Main and Road Enhancement Project. Results from an alternative approval process showed the city received 849 responses in opposition to borrowing for the third phase, representing 0.996 per cent of eligible electors, well below the 10 per cent of registered voters needed to halt the borrowing. 

The first phase of the project along Tranquille Road west of Crestline toward Kamloops Airport was completed in 2017, while the second phase between Southill Street and 12th Street was completed in 2021.
