Longtime Salmon Arm city councillor to have duties shared among colleagues following cancer diagnosis
SALMON ARM, B.C. — A Salmon Arm city councillor will have his duties shared among his colleagues as he deals with a cancer diagnosis.
In a post to social media Monday (June 1), Mayor Alan Harrison and the remaining five members of Salmon Arm council say they’ve decided to share Councillor Kevin Flynn’s civic workload on an interim basis. Council says it’s to ensure the longtime city councillor and his family and friends take their time to ensure his comfort in the weeks ahead.
“While we do not know what the future holds, we are determined to offer grace and make space for what Kevin needs now. It is our view that this is the least that we can do. In fact, it’s what we must do now. And we will do it,” council states.
Flynn publicly announced the discovery of tumors on his pancreas, liver and lungs during Salmon Arm council’s regular meeting on April 27, 2026. He said in council chambers that he didn’t plan to take a leave of absence or step down from his position.
