SALMON ARM, B.C. — Salmon Arm and area residents will have a chance to honour their Paralympic champion this Saturday (May 30).

The City of Salmon Arm will celebrate Natalie Wilkie, who won four medals at the 2026 Milan Cortina Paralympic Games in March, including Canada’s first gold medal of the games. The 25-year-old was also named flagbearer at both the opening and closing ceremonies.

“The celebration will include a welcome, remarks from Natalie and an opportunity for the community to meet and congratulate one of Salmon Arm’s most inspiring athletes,” the City of Salmon Arm said in a social media post.

Wilkie began training and competing in cross-country skiing at the age of four and was introduced to para cross-country skiing in November 2016, just a few months after she lost four fingers in an accident during a school woodworking class.

She has gone on to compete at the last three Paralympics in 2018, 2022 and 2026, and already has 11 medals (five gold, three silvers, three bronze) to her name in para cross-country skiing and para biathlon.

This Saturday’s celebration will be held at the Ross Street Plaza in Salmon Arm. It’s set to begin around 11:45 a.m. and people are being asked to line the streets to welcome Wilkie, who will be paraded through town on a fire truck from Salmon Arm Fire Hall #3.

“Bring your signs, your cheers and your community spirit as we celebrate an amazing hometown achievement,” the city statement added.
