KAMLOOPS — Incumbents Nancy Bepple, Dale Bass and now Bill Sarai have all announced their intentions of seeking another term on city council.

For Sarai, who announced his bid for a third term in front of supporters on Thursday (May 14) morning, he said it comes down to wanting to see more projects get across the finish line, including Build Kamloops and work out at the airport.

“Priority one is involuntary and voluntary care, that has to be the number one priority and we brought it up to (Health) Minister (Josie) Osborne at SILGA in Revelstoke. We had long discussions about people’s rights,” said Sarai. “And I will argue back, I will challenge people’s rights. I think people who are struggling and are a safety hazard to themselves and their community… I think we are giving them their rights back to them by helping them”

With online calls for a clean sweep of the nine current members of Kamloops council table, Sarai cautioned it wouldn’t be wise to remove all the built-up experience that exists around the horseshoe.

“A fresh start of all of council, I think, would be putting Kamloops back five to six years,” added Sarai. “Myself personally, I have built some great solid relationships with federal and provincial ministers and senior staff. And being the president of SILGA has given me a seat at the provincial table now, where I can voice our opinion – not only for the 36 interior municipalities but for the city of Kamloops.”
