Bass to seek re-election to Kamloops council

KAMLOOPS — The fourth member of the current Kamloops council table has indicated their intentions for the October municipal election.

Councillor Dale Bass will be seeking re-election this fall. Bass is completing her second term around the horseshoe and says her decision to seek another four years comes from a desire to complete several on-the-go projects around the community.

“I continue to be quite angry with this provincial government at how it is abandoning seniors, how it is abandoning children, how it is abandoning our healthcare system,” said Bass. “I guess my main priority would be to try to get through to this provincial government that they stood for something when they ran, they stood for something when they were elected and they need to remember what they stood for and do it.”

While whether online sentiment is truly reflective of general attitudes can be debated at length, there have been some calls for a clean sweep of the current nine incumbents, with the community witnessing dysfunction at city hall over the last term.

“Be careful what you wish for, because many, if not all, of the people who are complaining like that have absolutely no idea how municipal government works,” said Bass. “They get angry with us. We’ve had emails from people saying, ‘Just ignore the supreme court. Just ignore those decisions that have been made.’ That is ridiculous. These people believe that… there is a group out there that is just simply angry, thinks they know everything. They can get mad at me, okay, I’ll explain to them what we do touches them every single day.”

The municipal election is scheduled for Saturday October 17.
