KAMLOOPS — Residents in the Thompson and Nicola region are asked to provide input to the province to help inform forest-management decisions in their area.

Officials with B.C.’s Ministry of Forests are inviting residents in the area to participate in a survey and attend one of seven open houses – one being virtual – to help develop the tmíxʷ naqscn Forest Landscape Plan.

Open houses include:

Merritt – Wednesday, May 27 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Civic Centre Room Two at 1950 Mamette Ave.

Kamloops – Tuesday, June 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Sandman Centre Kia Lounge at 300 Lorne St.

Ashcroft – Wednesday, June 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8;00 p.m.; Ashcroft Community Hall at 711 Hill St.

Virtual town hall – Monday, June 15 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81380867582?pwd=dNBGrsi4ZtaR9Xqx1lSCDcoXx6P6JL.1

The survey runs until July 10, 2026

In a news release issued Monday (May 11), the province says Forest Landscape Plans are being developed through collaborative planning with First Nations and talks with forest licensees, local communities and other stakeholders in each local area.

The province adds the name tmíxʷ (the land and all living things) and naqscn (one voice) originates from the nsyilxcən and nłeʔkepmxcín languages and reminds that the forest landscape plan is about unity, respect and shared responsibility for the land and all living things.

The Nlaka’pamux Nation, Secwépemc and Syilx Nations have partnered with the province on the Forest Landscape Plan.
