Kamloops Airport passenger totals off to flying start in 2026

Passenger numbers in January (29,981), February (27,470) and March (28,608) were all up from last year, with February and March volumes up by roughly 10 per cent each.

“Increased flight frequencies to key destinations, including Vancouver and Calgary, contributed to nearly 10 per cent year-over-year growth in passenger numbers,” Moroz added, noting the growth is the result of ongoing collaboration between the airport, airlines, the city and regional tourism organizations.

“Together, these groups have focused on increasing destination awareness, enhancing flight frequencies and advancing route development.”

After months of slowdowns, first-quarter passenger numbers in Kamloops rose to a post-pandemic record of 89,588 in 2024, while the first three months of 2023 saw 80,867 passengers.

Moving ahead, Moroz said airport staff remain committed to “strengthening air service” to Kamloops, calling it a “key priority for 2026.”

Already secured for this year is the return of WestJet’s direct flight to Edmonton between mid-May and mid-October. Moroz is urging people to take advantage of that flight in the hopes of it becoming a permanent, year-round service.

“Clearly the two cities have a connection and this will allow for a broader range of traveller heading to Alberta or onward trips using Edmonton’s connections,” Moroz previously told CFJC Today. “It’s a positive thing for Kamloops and the region.”
