First quarter passenger numbers up 10 per cent for YKA

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Airport (YKA) saw greater passenger traffic in the first quarter of 2024.

In a news release issued Monday (April 15), Ed Ratuski, YKA’s managing director, states the airport welcomed 89,588 travelers – 30,028 in January, 30,079 in February and 29,481 in March 2024. That’s a 10.8 increase from the 80,867 recorded during the same period in 2023 – 27,264 in January, 25,765 in February and 27,838 in March.

“During the first quarter, there were significant increases in both inbound traffic to Sun Peaks and outbound travelers to sun destinations,” Ratuski states. “Passenger traffic is currently 86. 2 per cent of pre-COVID record levels.

Ratuski adds that Air Canada, Pacific Coastal and WestJet are maintaining their flight schedules and meeting demands heading into the summer.
