‘We remain each other’s biggest fans’: Kamloops-based Brown rink to part ways

KAMLOOPS — There will be a shakeup on the pebbled ice in Kamloops as Team Brown is “exploring new curling opportunities” after two decades together.

The current iteration of Team Brown – skip Corryn Brown, third Erin Pincott, second Sarah Koltun and lead Samantha Fisher – has been curling together for the past two seasons. 

Brown, Pincott and Fisher are from the Tournament Capital while Koltun, from Whitehorse, joined the rink ahead of the 2024–2025 season.

“There wasn’t a big event that caused a big blow up or what have you or a slow fizzle out, it’s just we all came to terms with the natural end,” Brown told CFJC. “Sometimes, you want to end something on good terms.”

“That’s the toughest part,” Pincott said of the amicable end. “It would maybe be easier if there was bad blood and animosity but the love is there for each other and the friendship too so that’s what, I think, makes it so difficult.”

Added Fisher: “It’s a lot of sadness. It’s scary because its something totally new but at the end of the day, the biggest thing is that we maintain our friendships outside of this.”

The foursome of Brown, Pincott, Fisher and Sydney Fraser formed in 2006 and went on to win the 2011 Canada Winter Games and the 2013 Canadian Junior Curling Championships.

Brown, Pincott, Fisher and lead Ashley Nordin (Klymchuk) also won silver at the 2015 Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) nationals while representing Thompson Rivers University.

The Kamloops Sports Hall of Fame came calling as the foursome of Brown, Pincott, Hawes and Fisher were enshrined as part of the Class of 2022.

“We put 10 good years together with the original Team Brown and then Erin, Corryn and I went on to do much more together and that’s super special,” Fisher said. “It’s makes me emotional to be honest.”

Pincott was asked about curling fans in Kamloops who may be saddened by the end of Team Brown.

“That does weigh on me a little bit,” Pincott said. “Because we have had the support of the curling club and Kamloops as a whole, it does feel a little heavy to think about that as well. I think we’ve grown up in front of people.”

Earlier this month, the current Brown foursome came up short in their bid to repeat as provincial champions and qualify for the 2026 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Last year, they were the first team from Kamloops to compete at Olympic curling trials, where they finished with a 1-6 record.

In 20 years, the team also won three B.C. junior titles, a junior national championship and two B.C. women’s titles, and made four national Scotties appearances.

Pat Cotter, Ken Brown, Allison MacInnes and Jim Cotter have all had stints as coach.

“I think we accomplished a lot of our dreams together which is really fulfilling,” Brown added. “I think we look back on a lot of these memories with a lot of happiness and gratitude for what we were able to experience together. It’s been a really tough week obviously and there’s a lot of grieving along with it. It does feel like a break up in a lot of ways.”

Brown and Pincott along with second Dezaray Hawes and lead Ashley Klymchuk competed at the 2020 Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Fisher, who briefly left the team to focus on her studies, returned to replace Klymchuk as lead at the 2021 Scotties.

The team has experienced its fair share of losses, perhaps none more disheartening than the extra end defeat to Clancy Grandy in the 2023 provincial final as it prevented Team Brown from competing on home ice at the 2023 Scotties in Kamloops.

Hawes departed the team in March 2023 and was replaced by Jennifer Armstrong for the 2023-24 season, which featured an appearance at the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts as a wildcard team.

The current iteration of Team Brown – Brown, Pincott, Koltun and Fisher – competed at the 2025 Scotties, where they made their one and only appearance in the tournament’s championship round.

“We feel incredibly fortunate to have shared so many meaningful moments and milestones together over the past two seasons and beyond,” the statement announcing the end of Team Brown said. “These experiences will always be something we will treasure and be proud of.”

“No matter where curling and life take us next, we remain each other’s biggest fans.”

“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who has supported us along the way,” the statement added. “Your support has meant everything to us.”
