RALEIGH, N.C. — Logan Stankoven is going to call the Tarheel State home for the next eight years.

The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed the 22-year-old Kamloops native to an eight-year, US $48 million contract extension, with an annual cap hit of US $6 million.

It will kick in in the 2026-27 season, as Stankoven has one season left on his entry-level contract that carries a cap hit of US $814,167. He will become an unrestricted free agent in 2034, at the age of 31.

The former Kamloops Blazers captain was acquired from the Dallas Stars at the trade deadline in March in the Mikko Rantanen trade.

“From the moment he arrived in Raleigh, it was clear to us that Logan was a Hurricane,” Hurricanes General Manager Eric Tulsky, said in a statement. “We’re thrilled that he agrees, and is committed to being a big part of this organization long term.”

Stankoven had 14 goals and 38 points in 78 games with the Stars and the Hurricanes last season. He added five goals and eight points in 15 playoff games and is the first rookie on record in NHL history with points in both the Eastern and Western Conference finals.

He also finished seventh in voting for the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year.

Drafted 47th overall by the Stars in 2021, Stankoven has 20 goals and 52 points in 102 career NHL games. He also has eight goals and 16 points in 34 playoff games.

Prior to making the NHL, Stankoven was named the AHL Rookie of the Year in 2023-24 and the CHL Player of the Year in 2021-22. He also won gold with Canada at the World Juniors in 2022 and 2023.

Stankoven was featured in the latest edition of the Tattle of Hastings, which aired last week.
