KAMLOOPS — Logan Stankoven was with the Dallas Stars in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the final two months of the 2023-24 regular season but that didn’t stop him from being the American Hockey League’s (AHL) rookie of the year.

The AHL announced on Thursday (April 25) that Stankoven was voted as the winner of the Dudley (Red) Garrett Memorial Award as the league’s outstanding rookie for 2023-24. The Kamloops local and former Blazers captain led the AHL in rookie scoring with 57 points (24 goals and 33 assists) despite only playing 47 games with the Texas Stars, the Dallas Stars’ affiliate.

Stankoven’s final AHL game of the season was Feb. 21, 2024. Since then, he’s scored six goals and eight assists in 24 games with the Dallas Stars to close out the NHL regular season. The 21-year-old also scored one assist in two Stanley Cup Playoff games.

Along with being named rookie of the year, Stankoven was voted to the AHL First All-Star Team and the AHL All-Rookie Team.
