KAMLOOPS — The governing BC New Democratic Party (NDP) has its candidate for the redrawn Kamloops-North Thompson riding.

Maddi Genn, a human services professional and union activist, was unveiled as the NDP’s candidate for Kamloops-North Thompson during a news conference at Valleyview Community Hall Wednesday (Aug. 21) morning.

Genn grew up in Salmon Arm but moved to Kamloops in 2016 to attend Thompson Rivers University where she completed a human services diploma.

“My goal is a more equitable and accessible future for all, and I look forward to joining Premier David Eby and the NDP team in Victoria as the MLA for Kamloops-North,” Genn states in a news release. “I believe we can do more to make Kamloops and the North Thompson an affordable place to live, to improve healthcare accessibility and increase safety. Together with communities we will continue to tackle the unregulated drug supply and related deaths crisis.”

The Kamloops-North Thompson BC NDP say Genn will be acclaimed as its candidate during a nomination meeting on Sept. 8.

Genn joins incumbent MLA Todd Stone with BC United and Barriere Mayor Ward Stamer with the BC Conservatives as declared candidates in Kamloops-North Thompson. The BC Greens have not yet unveiled a candidate.
