Women win 3-0, men fall 3-2 in Rivers FC’s return to Hillside Stadium

KAMLOOPS — Goals were aplenty for Rivers FC’s two home matches against Harbourside FC from Nanaimo on Saturday (June 1).

Rivers FC’s women’s squad picked up their first win of the 2024 League1 BC season with a 3-0 result over Harbourside FC. After a scoreless first half, Ava Wright got on the end of a corner kick to give Rivers FC a 1-0 lead 53 minutes in.

Ainsley Grether followed it up by burying a penalty kick in the 70th minute to give Rivers FC the insurance goal. Katharine Stewart also scored in stoppage time to make it a 3-0 match.

On the men’s side, Rivers FC had a rough start, surrendering two goals to Harbourside FC in the first 26 minutes.

Though Rivers FC were able to tie the match in the second half. Ryan Lewis finished a cross in the 56th minute and Elijah Michael Dos Santos buried a penalty kick in the 74th minute to tie the match 2-2.

However, two minutes later, Harbourside retook the lead and never looked back en route to a 3-2 win.

Rivers FC’s women improve to one win, two losses and three draws for the season, good for six points in six matches and fifth in the League1 BC table. Meantime, the men fall to one win, four losses and one draw for the season, good for four points in six matches and sixth in the League1 BC table.

Rivers FC hits the road Saturday, June 8 for a pair of matches against Burnaby FC.
