Wildfire discovered northwest of Lillooet Sunday grows to 50 hectares

UPDATE (9:00 a.m.): The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District issued an evacuation alert due to the Truax Creek wildfire.

EARLIER: LILLOOET, B.C. — A wildfire that was discovered northwest of Lillooet on Sunday (May 12) has grown to 50 hectares.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the Truax Creek wildfire on the westside of Carpenter Lake is burning out of control and is suspected to be human caused.

It’s the largest active wildfire within the Kamloops Fire Centre as wildfire service crews were able to gain momentum on holding and controlling a trio of fires over the weekend.

There are currently no evacuation alerts or orders in effect due to the Truax Creek wildfire.
