KAMLOOPS — Nicole Bonnett, a fire information officer for the BC Wildfire Service, called CFJC Today on Sunday (May 12) with positive news on three Kamloops Fire Centre wildfires, each of which are either being held or under control.

The nine-hectare Lauder Creek wildfire burning east of the northern tip of Nicola Lake is classified as being held.

Bonnett said there was no significant overnight growth and the Rank 1 and Rank 2 blaze is a smouldering ground fire, with limited open flames.

Bonnett said a unit crew, an initial-attack crew, three field staff, two water tenders and a helicopter continue to fight the fire, with work underway on finishing hose lay on the west flank.

Meanwhile, the 2.5 hectare Swakum Mountain wildfire, about 35 kilometres northeast of Merritt, just west of Highway 5, is classified as under control, with the most recent update coming on Sunday morning.

Bonnett said it is a spotty, patchy burn. Crews are patrolling on Sunday and extinguishing hot spots.

The BC Wildfire Service discovered a .5 hectare wildfire burning in the Lime Creek area near south Barriere Lake on Saturday (May 11) at about 4 p.m.

Bonnett said the fire, classified on Sunday as under control, did not grow overnight and is not expected to grow under projected weather conditions.
