One man dead following truck fire near Gibraltar Mine

McLEESE LAKE, B.C. — One man is dead following a vehicle fire north of McLeese Lake in the Cariboo Tuesday (March 19) morning.
Willams Lake RCMP responded to a single-vehicle accident on Gibraltar Mine Road at around 4:00 a.m. Tuesday where a tanker truck carrying high grade explosives had gone off the road and was engulfed with flames.
Police and Gibraltar Fire evacuated the area and set up containment. The RCMP’s bomb squad was called in and they set up a 1.6-kilometre radius around the scene.
Williams Lake RCMP say it and the Mines Investigation Unit are investigating the incident. Police say no names will be released.
