MCLEESE LAKE, B.C. — The RCMP’s bomb squad was called out to McLeese Lake today (Mar. 19) for a tanker truck hauling explosive material that caught on fire.

Williams Lake RCMP officers were called out around 4 a.m Tuesday morning for a report of a vehicle fire along Gibraltar Mines Road in McLeese Lake.

The tanker truck was fully engulfed in flames, so the Explosive Disposal Unit was brought in, and set up a 1.6 kilometre radius around the scene.

Mounties say the vehicle is no longer on fire, but investigators aren’t able to access the area yet to examine the scene. Gibraltar Mine Road is closed in both directions, and the next update from Drive BC isn’t expected until later this evening.
