BC Cancer begins search for qualified developers to design and build Kamloops cancer centre

Feb 15, 2024 | 11:00 AM

KAMLOOPS — Developers are being asked to show why they would be the best option to build the future BC Cancer centre at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.

BC Cancer issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) Thursday (Feb. 15) that’s asking proponents to express their interest in designing and building the Kamloops cancer centre.

By June 2024, the provincial government agency and Interior Health will create a shortlist of up to three candidates to participate in the request for proposal (RFP) stage that will determine which developer will be tasked with completing the $359-million project.

“Together with BC Cancer, the project team is moving quickly with the procurement process, one of the many planned milestones as we continue to move this project forward,” Susan Brown, Interior Health CEO and president, says.

The timeline on when the RFP stage will be complete was not provided, though construction of the Kamloops cancer centre is expected to begin in 2025. The project is expected to be completed in 2028.

Interested firms can view the RFQ on the B.C. government’s bids website.
