Kamloops Track and Field Club members win big at 2023 BC Athletics Awards

RICHMOND, B.C. — Kamloops Track and Field club members and athletes racked up a number of awards last week at the 2023 BC Athletics Awards in Richmond.

  • Alex Armstrong won BC Athletics New Official of the Year for 2023.
  • Mike Kern was awarded as the 2023 Junior Development Coach of the Year.
  • Dylan Armstrong was named the 2023 Senior/High Performance Coach of the Year.
  • KTFC’s Ethan Katzberg was awarded the 2023 Senior Track and Field Athlete of the Year title for Hammer Throw.

In the youth categories, the club had two athletes who received U16 Performance Awards, including:

  • 15-year-old Gabby Armstrong in Pole Vault
  • 15-year-old Payton Heer in High Jump.

And Kamloops Track and Field Club saw two members inducted into the BC Athletics Hall of Fame.

  • Judy Armstrong was inducted into the Class of 2023 as a Builder and Official, and for her work as president of the Kamloops Track and Field Club for more than 30 years.
  • While Brian Beck was inducted into the 2023 Class as an official, serving at the KTFC Club Registrar, and meet organizer.

In a Facebook post, the club says both inductees have put countless volunteer hours into the betterment of the sport, and the club would not be able to function without them.
