Scam calls rising, Salmon Arm RCMP offer advice
SALMON ARM, B.C. — RCMP in Salmon Arm say they are seeing an “extremely high call volume reporting fraud.”
The detachment said the incidents are mainly the grandparent scam, where a caller claims a family member is in jail and in need of bail money.
The fraudsters are reportedly asking the targets, primarily older people, to send gift cards, credit card numbers, e-transfers and even cash, and the RCMP reminds people not to provide the money as it is a hoax.
The RCMP remind the public that bail can only be paid to the police or at the courthouse in person.
