KAMLOOPS — Both Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack volleyball teams dropped their first of two weekend games in Abbotsford against the University of Fraser Valley Friday (Feb. 2).

The men fell to the Cascades 3-2 (16-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-27 and 15-11) despite taking the first set and having Sam Flowerday put up a performance of 25 kills, a pair of service aces, a solo block and 12 digs.

“We came out with lots of intensity and played great in the first set,” Pat Hennelly, men’s head coach says. “Credit to Fraser Valley, they have a great blocking game and that impacted our offence. We need to clean up service errors and stay aggressive.”

Meantime, the women fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-18 and 25-14) against the No. 6 ranked Cascades. Keira Gent and Brooklyn Olfer both had seven kills for the WolfPack.

The WolfPack men’s team fall to 9-10 on the 2023-24 Canada West season, good for ninth in the standings. They’re two games behind the University of Manitoba for the eight and final playoff spot.

The women fall to 6-13, good for 11th in the Canada West standings. They’re two games behind the University of Calgary for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Both WolfPack teams remain in Abbotsford for rematches against the Cascades Saturday.
