KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s volleyball team took down the UBCO Heat 3-2 last night (Jan. 20) inside the TCC.

The win was a special one for the ‘Pack. Not only it gave TRU a sweep over UBCO, but it also clinched the men’s Presidents’ Cup for the first time since 2019-20 – an annual competition between TRU and UBCO that tallies points for wins in head-to-head matches between the two schools.

The squad now holds a record of 9-7, tying with the TWU Spartans for the final playoff spot.

“Credit to the guys,” said head coach Pat Hennelly. “I know men’s volleyball let down two years ago where we just needed one win but I feel good we were able to secure it [President’s Cup] for TRU.”

However, it wasn’t the best day for the women’s team. For the first time in three games, the squad lost falling 3-0 to the Heat. The result brought an end to TRU’s program-best run of nine-straight set victories. The team now moves to 6-10 on the season, remaining on the edge for the final playoff spot.

The WolfPack now get ready to host the Trinity Western Spartans next Thursday (Jan. 25) and Friday (Jan. 26).
