Council to consider upping fees for memorial trees, benches in Kamloops parks
KAMLOOPS — Staff for the City of Kamloops are recommending a hike in the fees local residents pay to have their loved ones memorialized in city parks.
As it stands, the city charges $2,800 to install a memorial bench or $1,200 to plant a tree in someone’s name.
However, in a report coming to Kamloops council next week, Parks Operations Supervisor Shawn Cook says the inflation-fuelled cost to actually provide those items has now surpassed the revenue coming in.
In addition, Cook says 90 per cent of the requests for memorial benches request riverfront placement, when there are no riverfront spots available anymore.
